A chore chart that keeps its own score
Chore Board is one page your household shares: this week's chores grouped under the person they are assigned to, and a running tally of the points each person has actually earned. A chore carries a title, an assignee, a cadence of once, daily or weekly, a point value and a due date. Ticking it off is the whole interaction, and the scoreboard fills itself in from what gets finished.
Who ends up using it
Households where who does what is already a live conversation. Two adults splitting the load without keeping a private mental ledger about it, or parents attaching pocket money to chores and wanting the arithmetic to be something nobody has to take anybody else's word for.
The first five minutes
Installing gives you your own copy at its own web address, private from the moment it exists. Nothing you write is visible to anyone else who installed the same template. The board arrives with a starter set of ordinary household chores in it, so you begin by editing a real week rather than facing an empty page.
What the people you invite can do
You invite someone by typing their email address, and they get a link that signs them in with no password to invent. From then on they can add chores and tick chores off, including chores assigned to somebody else, but they cannot delete one. That asymmetry is written into the template rather than left to house rules, which is what stops a nine year old deleting their way out of the bins.
Every completion is stamped by the server with the person who actually pressed the button, not the person it was assigned to, and that stamp is what the tally counts. The points ledger is append only and only your AI writes to it, so points cannot be collected twice by ticking a chore off and on again.
Handing it to your AI
Ask it to set up the week and rotate the assignments so the same person is not always on bin duty. Tell it somebody is away and it reassigns their open chores. Ask on a Friday who did what and it reads the ledger, answers, then writes the tally. Adding a field, say the room a chore belongs to, is a request rather than a feature wait, and adding to an app never touches the rows already in it.
Where it stops
There is no payment step, so an allowance still moves between real people and a real bank. Nothing here nags: an overdue chore emails nobody unless you ask your AI to add a reminder rule. And there is no wall inside the board, so everyone in the household sees all of it, not just their own row.
That last one is a choice this template makes rather than a limit of the platform: who can see and change what is set per collection, and completions are stamped with the real person who pressed the button. If you got here after trying to build the same board as a shared page with no sign-ins, what a page with no accounts can and cannot know about the people using it is the difference in full.
Questions people ask
- Do my kids need their own Homespun accounts?
- Each person you invite by email gets their own sign in, which is what lets the board stamp completions with the real person. If a child has no email address, share the board through a link instead, which lets them use it without an account, though completions then cannot be attributed to them by name.
- Can somebody give themselves points they did not earn?
- Not by marking their own chore done twice. The points ledger is append only and writable only by the agent, and every chore completion is stamped by the server with the person who pressed the button rather than a name the page supplied.
- Can I change the point values or add my own chores?
- Yes. Points are a plain number on each chore and you can set them to whatever your household thinks is fair. Anyone you invite can add chores too, so the board does not depend on one person keeping it current.
- Is my chore board visible to other Homespun users?
- No. Installing creates your own private copy at its own address. Only you and the people you invite can open it. The version you see on this page is the template, not anybody's live board.
- What happens if I want it to work differently?
- Ask your AI. It can add fields, change how the board is laid out, or rework the scoring, and redeploying the app keeps the chores and the tally that are already in it.
