No. Nothing is imported and no money moves through Homespun. You record what was spent and the ledger works out who owes whom; the actual transfer happens in your banking app and you mark it settled here.

Can it handle more than two people?

Yes. Each expense carries a list of the people it is split between, so a household of four with expenses split different ways each time nets out correctly, and the settle up still proposes the fewest transfers rather than one per pair.

Can the other person delete an expense I entered?

Yes, expenses can be corrected or removed by anyone in the household, which is deliberate for a small group of people who trust each other. Settlements are different: once a transfer is recorded, only the owner can remove it.

What currency does it use?

Whichever one you use. Amounts are stored as plain numbers with no currency attached, so it is right for a household that spends in one currency and wrong for one that needs conversion between two.

Can I see the history of who paid for what?

Yes. Every expense keeps its date, its payer and the server stamped name of whoever entered it, and settlements are append only, so the record of past transfers stays intact.

A shared expense log that does the arithmetic

Household Ledger keeps one list of money spent on behalf of more than one person and derives everything else from it. An expense records what it was, how much, who paid, who it is split between, one of six categories (groceries, rent, utilities, baby, dining or other) and a date. From that list it works out what each person is up or down and puts the line that matters to you at the top: what you are owed, or what you owe, and to whom.

Who reaches for this

Couples with a joint life and separate bank accounts. Flatmates. Two families sharing a holiday house. Anyone in the position where the money is genuinely shared but the accounts are not, and where the alternative is a running mental tally that both people quietly believe is in their favour.

The settle up, which is the actual feature

Balances are easy. Turning a set of balances into the fewest real bank transfers is the part people get wrong on paper. The ledger nets everyone out and proposes the smallest set of transfers that brings the household back to zero, so three people who each owe each other something make one payment between them, not three.

Confirming a proposed transfer records a settlement, and settlements are append only because they are financial history. Expenses are different: anyone in the household can correct or remove one, which is the right trade for a small group of people who trust each other and mistype amounts.

Sharing it with the person you split with

Installing gives you a private copy at its own address. Invite the others by email and they can log expenses and record settlements exactly as you can, with balances recomputing live for everyone, so an expense entered in a supermarket queue moves the number on the other person's screen before they get home. The name on a row is stamped by the server rather than typed into the page, and rows your AI added are marked, so you can always tell which entries came from a conversation.

What your AI does with it

Mostly it saves you the form. Tell it you paid eighty four euros for the weekly shop split with your partner and it writes the row with the category filled in. Ask where things stand and it reads both lists, nets the balances and proposes the transfer. Ask it to tidy up and it back fills the category on everything left as other. It notices absences too, which a form cannot: rent is usually logged by the first and has not been this month is the sort of thing you want said out loud.

What it deliberately does not do
